What we need from you on the first call

Have what you can. Dispatch works with partial information every day — the quote starts on the first call, not after a form.

  • Where the team is — base, and whether they are assembled or converging
  • Where the aircraft is grounded — field, and the nearest usable runway if you know it
  • Headcount — technicians, inspectors, anyone riding along
  • Tooling and parts — weights and dims, plus any DG (oxygen generators, batteries, squibs)
  • The window — the departure or maintenance slot you are protecting

Overnight outstation return-to-service

A regional carrier’s aircraft went down at a station with no maintenance presence and no airline lift until mid-morning. Technicians and the component launched together that night; the aircraft took its first scheduled departure.

Engine-change go-team

A multi-day engine event needed a full crew with heavy tooling. The team flew on a cabin-class charter while tooling too large for the cabin moved on a parallel cargo lift — one dispatcher sequencing both.

A single technician to a hub city at 7am: the first airline departure beat every charter option. We booked the seat, moved the part separately, and both were there before the charter would have boarded.

When you do not need a go-team charter

  • The station has qualified contract maintenance and only the part must move — see emergency aircraft parts delivery.
  • A morning airline departure honestly makes your window — we will book the seat instead of selling the charter.
  • The fix can wait for the aircraft’s next scheduled maintenance visit — then nothing should fly tonight.

If one of those fits, we will say so on the phone and point you at the cheaper option. A desk you can trust at 2am is worth more to us than one charter.

Can you fly a mechanic and the part on the same aircraft?
Yes — that is the signature mission. Technician, tooling, and component travel together on one chartered aircraft, so there is no bet on two shipments and a rental car lining up at an outstation.
How fast can a go-team launch?
Documented average wheels-up is under 2.5 hours from your first call. Off-hours launches are routine — AOGs cluster at night and on weekends, and the desk is staffed accordingly, 24/7/365.
How many people can a go-team charter carry?
From a single technician on a light aircraft to a full maintenance crew with baggage and tooling on a larger cabin. The aircraft is sourced to headcount, tooling weight, and runway at the destination.
Can you get into small outstation airports?
That is the point of the service. Part 135 aircraft serve thousands of US fields that scheduled airlines do not, which routinely puts the team a short drive from the grounded aircraft instead of hours out.
Can you carry tooling, jacks, and heavy equipment with the crew?
Yes — declare weights and dimensions on the first call and the aircraft is selected around them. Oversized tooling that will not fit with the crew moves in parallel on a cargo aircraft, coordinated by the same dispatcher.
What about hazmat riding with the team — oxygen generators, batteries, squibs?
Declare it up front. Dangerous goods move compliantly through carriers with active DG programs — sometimes with the team, sometimes on a parallel lift. Emergency is never a reason to skip the declaration. See hazmat air charter.
Who uses OnFly for mechanic transport?

What does a go-team charter cost?

Can you also bring the stranded crew home or position a replacement crew?
Yes — crew recovery and repositioning are the same mission in reverse and often fly as the return leg. See passenger & crew charter.
What do you need from us to quote?
Where the team is, where the aircraft is grounded, headcount, tooling weight/dims, whether a part rides along, and the maintenance window you are protecting. Partial information is fine — quoting starts on the first call.
